Study: 23 You Must Know the Truth About “Christmas day”
The commemoration of Jesus Christ’s Birth – also known as Nativity or Christmas day- is one from among the capital feasts of the Christian schedule. This festivity is not recorded at all in the Holy Scriptures (NT), because it was introduced by “Catholicism” since the second century when “Pope” Telesforous (125-136) appointed three commemorative “Masses”. However, although Christmas day was celebrated over about two centuries by Roman “Catholic” church it had not even a established date, but “Pope” Julius I (337-352) established as an appointed date December 24 which – from that moment – was “Christmas Eve” and December 25 resulted “Christmas Day” Felix Coluccio, in his Study “La Navidad y los Pesebres” (“Christmas and Mangers”) affirms that until the eighth century it was a simple village style celebration, without brightness; nevertheless, afterward it was increasing its magnificence till it reached a real apotheosis level, because churches’ altars were specially illuminated whereas the variety of characteristic rites as well as liturgical chants and Christmas-carols rendered the feast solemn. “Midnight Mass” is the central and most transcendental “Catholic” act, which is said by “Pope” at the Saint Peter’s Basilica – Vatican – on December 24 at midnight, that is followed by other two: The first one called Aurora (“Dawning Mass”) because it is said at dawn on December 25, meaning the Birth of the new born Child – as shepherds worship Him – into every righteous person’s heart; the other one is called “Mass of the Day” because is said during the morning on December 25 and it means the Birth of the Verb – Word - or Holy Spirit into God the Father’s Bosom. In many places it is only said “Midnight Mass” which is so called due it begins after sound of bells announces that December 25 has begun.
Jesus, the Christ, was not Born on December 25
As it was explained former, that date was established as late as the fourth century and it has no Scriptural point of support. Agustin de Hipona (354-430) confessed that old heathenism’s feasts were “assumed”- with other names – to satisfy the idolatrous polytheist masses which have been “christianized” who wanted to hold fast their joyful feasts. December 25 corresponds to Saturnalia that were old pagan feasts held by romans. Since the second century the “Catholics” of the east did celebrate “Christmas-day” on January 6. However, Roman “Catholics” since the year 354 commemorated Jesus Christ’s Birth on December 25, because of a decree issued from “Pope” Liberious. Nevertheless, easterners held fast the date January the 6, besides they accused their western sisters to be sun’s worshipers (idolatry). At that time, December 25 was erroneously consider as winter solstice(North Hemisphere – NH) when it was held most important festival of Mithraism – religious system characterized by worshiping the Persian god named Mithra. Adoption of December 25 was a “wise” decision of roman “Catholicism” because it allowed to set Jesus Christ’s Birth just in the center of pagan festivals of winter by the time that roman emperor Constantine I “the great” became a christian, since the church sought to convert the great idolatrous masses. So it was officially the “Mass of Christ”, but also in practice resulted a time for carousing, drunkenness, gluttony, dancing, exchanging of gifts and customs. It was very soon evident that people was too attached to their boisterous frolic and indisposed to leave them, so these were “assumed and christianized”. In that way people continued with their winter amusement activities and – at the same time – “worshiping the Child”. Since many decades ago the custom of exchanging gifts during “Christmas Eve” symbolizes “to do or pay Homage to Jesus Child”. In addition, people began to share the characteristic foods in family and also with outsiders in a “true christian spirit”. This festivity progressively comprehended a series of characteristic traditions and customs, as follows: manger, “Christmas tree”, Santa Claus, pyrotechnics, etc. All things which only provide enjoy to those who practice them, yet most of them have even “lost” the initial motive for commemoration.
Concrete criticism about the adopted date – December 25
According to some historians’ opinion “Christmas day” should take place in spring (NH – april or may) because as Accounted in Luke 2:8-12 the night in which Jesus Christ was Born, there were shepherds watching over their flocks in the open, “under a starry sky”, which is unlikely during winter (NH). Some Scholars of the Bible based upon the season – schedule – in which Zachariah (John Baptist’s father) Performed his Service in the Temple (Luke 1:5-80) being a priest belonging to the Abijah’s division (1 Chronacles 24:7-19) concluded that John the Baptist was born on march and Jesus the Christy on september.
Jesus, the Christ was not even Born in the “Year Zero”
If we carefully examine bibliography about this subject, we should arrive at an assured conclusion: Jesus the Christ was not Born in the “Year Zero”, or beginning of the Christian Era, or Jesus Christ’s, or Vulgar. Everything affirmed above is based on the fact that the calendar in force was made by “Catholicism” in order to resolve their liturgical question about “Passover of Resurrection’s right date”, therefore by request of either “Pope” John I (523-526) or “Pope” Bonifacio II (530-532) – depending on the source – a scythian monk or roman abbé –depending on the source – named Dionisio “the exiguous” (because of his low – stature) attempted to calculate the exact date of Jesus Christ’s Birth on basis of historical arguments more than chronological calculation, so he concluded that Jesus Christ’s Birth happened on December 25 of the year 753-4 –depending on the source – since Rome’s foundation. However, it was very soon questioned for many reasons; without doubting Dionisio miscalculated because according to both Holy Scriptures (Matthew 2:1-23) and historian Josefo, Jesus the Christ was Born while Herod “the great” reigned, who died (Matthew 2:19-20) short time after Jesus Christ’s Birth, which happened some years earlier than 753-4 since Rome’s foundation. The whole sequence of events until Archelaus succeeded him, shows that Herod “the great” died after the Passover in the year 751 since Rome’s foundation. Thus, Anderson in his Chronological Study about Nativity, established the Birth of Jesus Christ about the fall in the 750 – It means 4 years before Christ – since Rome’s foundation.
