Biblical Points:
10
And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of
life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.”
13 Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. 14 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.
1 And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore to him—Isaac.
1 Now
Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an
Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. 2 So Sarai said to
Abram, “See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children.
Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And
Abram heeded the voice of Sarai. 3 Then Sarai, Abram’s wife,
took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to
be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan.
4 So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that
she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.
12 He shall be a wild
man;
9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing. 10 Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely with Isaac.”
30 Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.”
23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, 24 which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— 25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children— 26 but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.
1 “Sing, O barren,
27
For it is written: 6 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
31
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My
word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the
truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
37
“I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me,
because My word has no place in you. 38 I speak what I have
seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.”
48
Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You
are a Samaritan and have a demon?”
1 Why
do the nations rage,
20
At that time I will bring you back,
27
And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the
crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that
bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” 29 And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. 30 For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation. 31 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.
14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was
betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child
of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just
man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to
put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these
things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying,
“Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife,
for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for
He will save His people from their sins.”
6
For unto us a Child is born,
7
Alas! For that day is great,
The word that
came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 “Thus speaks the
LORD God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words
that I have spoken to you. 3 For behold, the days are
coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people
Israel and Judah,’ says the LORD. ‘And I will cause them to return to
the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’”
27
“Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that I will sow the house
of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of
beast. 28 And it shall come to pass, that as I have
watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down, to destroy,
and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says
the LORD. 29 In those days they shall say no more: 30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.
31
“Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day
that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of
Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,
says the LORD. 33 But this is the covenant that I will
make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will
put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be
their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall
every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know
the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the
greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and
their sin I will remember no more.”
6
For there shall be a day
The remnant of Israel!’ 1 I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, 3 “LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”? 4 But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
25
As He says also in Hosea:
30
What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness,
have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith; 31
but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the
law of righteousness. 32 Why? Because they did not
seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they
stumbled at that stumbling stone. 33 As it is written:
3
“But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I
have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be
fruitful and increase. 4 I will set up shepherds over them
who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor
shall they be lacking,” says the LORD.
15
‘ In those days and at that time
25 “Thus says the LORD: ‘If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, 26 then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’”
1 “Now
it shall come to pass, when all these things come upon you, the blessing
and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to
mind among all the nations where the LORD your God drives you, 2
and you return to the LORD your God and obey His voice, according to all
that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and
with all your soul, 3 that the LORD your God will bring you
back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again
from all the nations where the LORD your God has scattered you. 4
If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under
heaven, from there the LORD your God will gather you, and from there He
will bring you. 5 Then the LORD your God will bring you to
the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. He will
prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers. 6 And
the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your
descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all
your soul, that you may live.
11
“For this commandment which I command you today is not too
mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12 It is
not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us
and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Nor
is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea
for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14
But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart,
that you may do it.
20 “Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 21 Beware of Him and obey His voice; do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name is in Him.
4
Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? 1 Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father’s name written on their foreheads.
18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. 19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
2 “
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
When the
Assyrian comes into our land,
19
Then the rest of the trees of his forest
20
And it shall come to pass in that day
4
I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall
fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the
LORD. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,
6
For unto us a Child is born,
17
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer,
1 Give the king Your
judgments, O God,
7 Gilead is Mine,
and Manasseh is Mine;
1 The word that Isaiah
the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
10
Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing;
6
Therefore My people shall know My name; 1 I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, 2 that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, 4 who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; 5 of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.
21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
17
For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more
those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness
will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
27
Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands;
and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not
be unbelieving, but believing.”
16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
25
And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him,
“Rabbi, when did You come here?”
41
The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, “I am the bread
which came down from heaven.” 42 And they said, “Is not this
Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it
then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
60
Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said,
“This is a hard saying; who can understand it?”
16
Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God.”
29
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
20
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 21 And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one,
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
10
“ Who among you fears the LORD? 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
28 Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
44 Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.
19 Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He. 20 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
56
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was
glad.”
4
Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went
forward and said to them, “Whom are you seeking?”
26
I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh,
8
Thus says the LORD:
2
For He says: Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
6
Indeed He says,
6
“ I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness,
32
A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, 5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, “‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”(that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
37 but He whom God raised up saw no corruption. 38 Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; 39 and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” 21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
5 Then he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD. 6 And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient.” 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words.”
1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “This shall be the law of the leper for the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought to the priest. 3 And the priest shall go out of the camp, and the priest shall examine him; and indeed, if the leprosy is healed in the leper, 4 then the priest shall command to take for him who is to be cleansed two living and clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet, and hyssop. 5 And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water. 6 As for the living bird, he shall take it, the cedar wood and the scarlet and the hyssop, and dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water. 7 And he shall sprinkle it seven times on him who is to be cleansed from the leprosy, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose in the open field.
12 You shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour all the blood beside the base of the altar.
14 He shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east side; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.
12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
12
Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places
in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation
of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in
love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus
Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6
to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in
the Beloved.
11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles— 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; 10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,
12
giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the
inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered
us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of
the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through
His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
19
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should
dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by
Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace
through the blood of His cross.
1 For
I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in
Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in
love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of
understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the
Father and of Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures
of wisdom and knowledge.
11
In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the
circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in
which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working
of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead
in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made
alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14
having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us,
which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having
nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and
powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
6
However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom
of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden
wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8
which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they
would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
10 But God has revealed
them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all
things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows
the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even
so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is
from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to
us by God.
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD.
15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
6 Sacrifice and offering
You did not desire;
5
Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:
22
So Samuel said:
6
For I desire mercy and not sacrifice,
34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
15
But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before,
18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,[a] “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. 18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
8
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write,
13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
6 “ Thus says the
LORD, the King of Israel,
12 “ Listen to Me, O
Jacob,
1 For
this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met
Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,
2 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being
translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning
“king of peace,” 3 without father, without mother, without
genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made
like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.
11
Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for
under it the people received the law), what further need was there
that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek,
and not be called according to the order of Aaron? 12 For the
priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the
law. 13 For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to
another tribe, from which no man has officiated at the altar.
20
And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath
21 (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with
an oath by Him who said to Him:
22 by so much more
Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.
1
Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have
such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the
Majesty in the heavens, 2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of
the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.
7
For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place
would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault
with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when
I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house
of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made
with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them
out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant,
and I disregarded them, says the LORD. 10 For this
is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind
and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they
shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his
neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all
shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and
their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
1 Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary. 2 For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary; 3 and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, 4 which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; 5 and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. 6 Now when these things had been thus prepared, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing the services. 7 But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance; 8 the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing. 9 It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience— 10 concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation. 11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. 16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Psalm 16:8-11
25
For David says concerning Him:
3 “I have made a covenant
with My chosen,
11 The LORD has sworn
in truth to David;
12 “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. 15 But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you.Your throne shall be established forever.”’”
1 Now
it came to pass, when David was dwelling in his house, that David said
to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the
ark of the covenant of the LORD is under tent curtains.”
30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.
32
This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33
Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received
from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which
you now see and hear.
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.
45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
17 And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. 18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. 7 In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ 8 Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.
7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
2 “
I will utterly consume everything 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
13
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who
have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring
with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
1 But
concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I
should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that
the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For
when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon
them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day
should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light
and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6
Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be
sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who
get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day
be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a
helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to
wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10
who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together
with Him.
12
And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and
are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem
them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among
yourselves.
1 Now,
brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our
gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon
shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as
if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no
one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless
the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of
perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is
called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of
God, showing himself that he is God.
1
Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which
I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may
be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets,
and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,
3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days,
walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is
the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things
continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5
For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were
of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6
by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with
water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now
preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of
judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
22
“ For as the new heavens and the new earth
19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
22 If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. O Lord, come!
